Rat & Mouse Poison

If you're looking for options on how to get rid of rats and mice, rat poison can be an effective DIY pest control solution to rodent infestations, however they also carry significant risks which you can read about in our blog article.

We supply a range of second generation anticoagulant poison baits which are some of the strongest and most effective on the market for getting rid of rats and mice. Once they ingest it, the active ingredients work by affecting the rodents' ability to clot blood, leading to death a few days later.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the different type of rat poisons available, we have provided some key points below. Further information can be found in our blog/how-to guides here.

Form

Our rat and mouse bait come in one of three forms; Blocks, Grain or Paste. Each have their respective advantages and it's important to pick the correct form for your specific circumstances. We have provided a brief outline of these below. Further information can be found in our blog articles.

Blocks Bait blocks are a sweet smelling rat food, mixed with poison and covered with wax. As they are singular, larger blocks, the risk of loose parts spilling and becoming accessible to non-target species is reduced. The wax coating also means they are more resistant to adverse weather conditions. The blocks have a hole running through the middle of them for easy attachment to a bait box.

Grain This form comes on a grain (for example oats or wheat) which have been laced with attractants to ensure maximum efficacy. Rats can be suspicious of unfamiliar objects (such as blocks), however as grains are a rat’s common food source, they are normally less suspicious, increasing this form’s effectiveness. Care should be taken to avoid accidental spilling of the grain into areas non-target species might have access to it.

Paste Paste bait can be effective when rats reject grain or block baits. The paste comes in individual sachets that can be attached directly to the metal rod of a bait station. Rodents are particularly attracted to this formula as it's packed with ingredients such as peanut oils and cereals which make it incredibly palatable for the rodents. It is made up of high calorie ingredients which can make it a suitable choice if the rats have access to other food sources (such as in cities).

Brodifacoum (Sapphire) vs Difenacoum (Ruby)

We supply Brodifacoum and Difenacoum based rodent bait (Sapphire and Ruby respectively) which have different applications. A brief overview of their characteristics is noted below, but for further information, please visit our blog.

Difenacoum (Ruby Bait) The active ingreditent Difenacoum is a second generation anti-coagulant multi-feed bait, meaning rodents need to feed multiple times to hit a lethal dose. It can be used to get rid of mice or to get rid of rats. It is a more appropriate rodenticide for areas where non-target animals are present. Although it's slightly weaker than the Sapphire baits, it should always be protected from non-target species via the use of a tamper-resistant bait station.

Brodifacoum (Sapphire Bait) The active ingredient Brodifacoum is a single feed anti-coagulant bait meaning rodents hit a lethal dose after a single feed, making it stronger than Difenacoum. It can be used to kill rats and kill mice. It is excellent against the brown rat and mice, however it is extremely toxic to all mammals and therefore it's essential that it is kept locked away from non-target animals. Secure tamper-proof bait boxes can be bought on our 'Bait Stations' page.
