Slugs

Slugs are most commonly found in gardens, feasting on vegetation and damaging crops. However they can also be found in damp areas of homes and due to their appearance, this is never particularly pleasant! Our range of granules can be used to create a physical barrier to deter them, or to kill them directly.

The Problem

The most obvious signs of slugs is physically seeing them, damage to crops or, if they are inside a home, they leave a slimy trail behind. They are usually nocturnal because direct sunlight can dry out their bodies (which have a high water content). They prefer damp conditions such as under rocks or in the soil. They can also me more prevalent in the open when it rains and given Britain's wet weather, they thrive.

When they move, they excrete a slimy adhesive substance (hence the trails) which allows it to move across surfaces at any angle (including upside down). This means that there are very few areas that a slug won't be able to get to if it put its mind to it.

Slugs can lay up to 500 eggs a year (normally leaving them in cracks and crevices in soil) during spring and autumn, therefore it's a good idea to address these pests as soon as they become apparent.

Aside from damage to plants, slugs don't pose a significant risk, however that doesn't mean they are a welcome visitor in garden and homes alike.

Treatment

Slugs do have natural predators, such as rats and birds, however the presence of these predators can bring their own problems. In such cases, our granules can be used to kill and deter slugs from your property. It is important to always use them in line with the manufacturer's instructions and to reduce the risk to non-target species wherever possible.
