Wasps need no introduction and our sprays, powders and foggers can be utilised to help control these pests. However, wasps stings can be incredibly painful and, in some cases, fatal so it is important to know what you're dealing with. If in any doubt, always seek advice from a professional pest control services firm.

What Are They?

Wasps start to emerge and work on their nests in the Spring, when the weather starts to get warmer. By summer, their nests can be producing up to 300 eggs a day with a population of 5000. As the weather gets colder, and food becomes more scarce, the worker wasps will die off and the queen will go into hibernation.

Wasps can be aggressive and cause painful stings which, in some cases, can be fatal if the victim has an allergic reaction to the sting. They will normally only attack if they feel threatened (they also send signals for their friends to come and help as well).

Wasps are attracted to sweet foods so you may well encounter them during BBQs or dining outside. If there are a substantial amount of them, it could indicate they have nested nearby. However, they can travel over a mile to seek-out food so their presence doesn't necessarily mean you have an infestation.

They normally make their nests in sheltered spots such as under trees, in bushes, wall cavities or in sheds and garages to name a few.

Treatment

Our sprays, powders and traps below can help to eliminate the presence of wasps in areas of a garden or home where people feel threatened by them. If the problem is the presence of a nest is such an area, we recommend contacting a professional pest control service firm who can send out a qualified pest controller to remove the nest safely. Remember, wasps will 'call for help', if they feel threatened so if you try and tackle them, you will rarely be tackling just the ones you can see!

It's also important to ensure you are not mistaking bumble or honey bees for wasps. The bees are an essential part of the ecosystem and should, wherever possible, be left alone.

Spray, Powder, Fogger or Trap?

Spray Sprays are effective when you need to eradicate wasps in a specific area and want to reduce the risk of affecting non-target species through spillage. This may be the case if wasps are isolated, such as in homes.

Powders Powders can be effective when there is a larger area that is infected by wasps, or there are cracks and crevices that can be harder to access directly with sprays. Caution should always be taken to avoid leaving it in areas that may affect non-target species.

Traps Our wasp trap can be used with wasp attractants (or anything sweet). It is specifically designed to entice wasps in and not allow them back out. This can be a good option where wasps are present outside of a home and can be left away from areas people frequent.

Foggers Foggers are a great option for killing wasps when the infected area is enclosed (such as a room or garage). They fill the room with chemicals that kill off the wasps, even in hard to reach places that can't be reached by powders or sprays such as cracks and crevices. Caution should be taken as the chemicals will also kill any other species of insect in the area as well. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
